How do you record your food safety records?
Electronically or Pen & Paper
Some food businesses now record their food safety records electronically. Other’s still record their records with the good old pen and paper.
Either way is good but you still need procedures in place to ensure your staff are handling food in a safe manner and that the correct record keeping is being maintained.
I work with many businesses. Some record electronically, others record manually and some are half and half! But they all have one thing in common—they use a tailor made system I’ve put in place. This way they know they will attain their 5*’s as long as the procedures are followed by their staff.
Electronically recording records doesn’t automatically get you a 5* Food Hygiene Rating and doesn’t mean the staff are following the procedures.
A personalised system includes:
- House Rules—The 7 rules to keep your business safe
- Food Safety Procedures—To ensure the House Rules are being followed
- Critical Control Points—Storage, Cooking, Chilling & Re-heating
- Product Scope
- Personalised Laminated Signs for Kitchen & Restaurant
- Full ingredients lists for menus plus an Allergens Matrix
- Staff Training Records including Staff Training
- Completion of SFBB
- Unannounced Inspections
- Periodic Audits
If you’d like an electronic system, I work with a company who provides the software and if you’re a small business there’s no charge.
You can still have a paper system in case the internet goes down and you can’t record your records.
